Technically WordPress is not going effect SEO of your blog. However, using certain plugin you can increase its SEO potential better than any other else. So, if you are not using WordPress, you should try it for better search engine optimization.
2. Install SEO Plugin:
WordPress with SEO plugin by yoast is a great combination for a blog. If your are not using this, you must be missing a huge search engine optimization potential of your blog. By the way, if you are comfortable with plugin migration, you should do it. Otherwise you can continue with other too and skip this step.
Although plugin has many options to customize it, but here I wish to make a list of only few recommended options, that you should use. I found, these are very helpful in building base for SEO of my blog. Go to seo setting page, edit these option just after installation finished.
Home Page Titles & Title Tag: It main side wide option, Where you can control home page, archives and default title appearance in search result.
General Option: General contains basic options to enable-disable some core meta setting for all website.
Home Page: Home page title and meta description space, which will be shown in search result as title & description.
Page Type, Taxonomies and Others: These have option to edit default title and description for special pages and archive.
Social Media Data Option.
This is the option which helps you to control appearance of links on social media updates. It means whenever, you or your fans share contents on social channel, you can control appearance and track social signals etc.
On Page SEO Option.
This is most important option for your blog. By default it appears bellow WordPress text editors (Page, post or any other type of post).
3. Create and Use Sitemap.
Sitemap is a very important element of a website, it will let you convince search engine bot to crawl your blog easier than normal. It includes all posts and pages as links on a single .xml page. Technically a smart sitemap Notify Search Engines about itself, that increases indexing rate of your blog and hence organic traffic.
Again if you are using WordPress, this part become just few step process. Go to the plugin page, click add new, search for “Google XML Sitemaps” hit install and then activate. Now, you will have a sitemap options in setting section, go and customize it.
4. Connect and Use Google Webmaster.
Webmaster tool is a free service by Google, that helps you to see how your blog is seen by search engine bot. It will let you know if there is something error to be fix for search engine crawling and indexing purpose. Using webmaster tool is not a rocket science, but it has a great potential to improve search engine optimization of your blog.
So, go and get your free Google webmaster account, verify your blog. Add a new website, submit your sitemap, that you have created before. For wordpress users, verification process is very easy, just copy verification code, and paste it in WordPress seo option page.
5. Install Google analytics.
Ideally, as a blogger you spend tons of hours to create fresh content for your blog. You want lots of other traffic to your blog including orgaic traffics. But, have you ever seen what is happening on your blog? How people and coming, why you are not getting nice traffic jam on your blog? Which posts are performing well, which one need some editing to perform more better? And lots of question just about how your blog is doing?
If you want answers of such questions, you should try Google analytics a free service to improve search engine optimization aspects of your blog. If you think, how Google analytics can improve SEO? Then, it will let you know best performing keywords and ranks of that keywords. You can use those data to write more post to convince search engine to improve ranking.
